A complete test of core stability would assess strength, endurance, flexibility, balance and function.  These four tests assess the endurance of the core muscles. They have been shown to be reliable and are quick and easy to do.

Trunk Flexion Test

 Sit with hips and knees bent to 90 degrees, feet supported,arms crossed over the chest, and trunk supported at 60 degree angle from the floor.

Remove the trunk support and hold the position as long as possible.

Average time is 58 secs

 

 Trunk Extension Test

Lay face down over the edge of a table with support to the hips and legs. The trunk and arms are supported on a chair directly infront of the table.

Remove the chair, cross the arms over the chest and hold the position as long as possible. Stop timing when the body falls below horizontal.

Average time is 82 secs

 Right Side Bridge Test

Lay on the right side with knees extended, top foot in front of lower. Lift the hips and support weight on the elbow and feet. Hold as long as possible. Stop timing when hips return to floor.

Average time is 79secs

Left Side Bridge Test

Average time is 77 secs
